The "Rumah untuk Orangutan" (House for Orangutans) program, initiated by HARPA in collaboration with the Sintang Orangutan Center (SOC) and supported by Kitabisa.org, aims to rehabilitate rescued orangutans, restore their natural habitats, and raise public awareness about conservation. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on biodiversity preservation, climate action, and community education.
  • The population of orangutans has plummeted by over 50% in the last 75 years.
  • The tropical rainforests of Borneo, which form the natural habitat of the orangutan, have witnessed a staggering reduction of more than 70% in recent decades.
  • Alarming data from the IUCN shows an 83% decrease in their population in recent decades, mostly due to habitat loss from gold mining, building hydroelectric plants, and expanding farmlands
  • Awareness of orangutan conservation is limited, with insufficient educational outreach and rehabilitation initiatives.
  • Orangutan Rehabilitation
  • Community Education
  • Habitat Restoration
  • Orangutans Rehabilitated: 27 individuals.
  • Students Engaged: 202 students from six schools.
  • Trees Planted: Number of trees planted in habitat restoration efforts.

Teach4Hope Program

Teach4Hope is an educational program that bridges the gap between education and employability for less privileged people. Vocational training, soft development skills, and eventual job placement are the key elements through which the program trains and empowers participants. Teach4Hope contributes significantly to social improvement by addressing unemployment, fostering community development, and thus helping achieve critical SDGs related to Quality Education, Decent Work, and Reduced Inequalities.
  • Indonesia’s youth unemployment rate is 16.5% (BPS, 2023), largely due to a mismatch between market demands and skill levels.
  • Only 15% of the workforce has access to vocational training, limiting their employability.
  • Economically disadvantaged communities lack opportunities for career counseling, skill development, and industry connections.
  • Conducting 3-month training programs, including 1 month of classroom instruction and 2 months of internship or on-the-job training.
  • Offering market-relevant vocational classes in administration, sales, and entrepreneurship.
  • Providing career preparation support, such as CV and interview training.

Aksi Jaga Bumi Program

Aksi Jaga Bumi (AJB) aims to initiate and foster a waste-responsible society through a communal on-site waste management system. AJB will transform the conventional waste management system to a more comprehensive system that will reduce waste residue transported to landfill. Aksi Jaga Bumi also includes a series of competitions to increase participant motivation to take part in this program.
  • Indonesia generates over 67.8 million tons of waste annually, but only 7.5% is recycled, while 69% ends up in landfills (Bappenas, 2022).
  • Landfills such as Bantar Gebang are overwhelmed, emitting significant amounts of methane and other harmful gases.
  • Community participation in waste segregation and recycling is minimal, hindered by a lack of infrastructure and awareness.
  • Zero-Waste Training: Community workshops on waste sorting, recycling, and processing.
  • Competitions: Team-based initiatives to encourage innovative waste solutions.
  • Monitoring and Incentive Distribution: Regular evaluations of community waste management centers.
  • 40 waste management groups
  • >1600 individuals involved
  • Throughout 2024, Aksi Jaga Bumi Program has successfully processed 239,637.51 kg kilograms of municipal waste, which consist of; 200,431.59 kilograms of organic waste & 39.205,92 kilograms of inorganic waste.
  • The estimated carbon footprint avoidance achieved by Aksi Jaga Bumi are 38.463 tonnes CO2-eq.

Health Screening - Active Case Finding (ACF) TBC

The screening program for the early detection of Tuberculosis is done within the communities with chest X-rays supported by AI technology. With Indonesia having the second-most number of TB patients in the world, this program will hasten the diagnosis of active TB cases for prompt treatment, especially among the population living in densely populated areas or with co-morbidities.
  • Indonesia ranks second globally in tuberculosis cases, with an estimated 969,000 cases reported annually (WHO, 2023).
  • Social stigma and lack of awareness deter individuals from seeking early TB screening and treatment.
  • Significant barriers to recovery and social-economic reintegration for TB survivors.
  • Direct community screening with the help of mobile AI-based chest X-ray units.
  • Educate the public about symptoms, risks, and prevention of TB.
  • Follow-up and evaluate the TB suspects for treatment at health facilities.
  • 9 active TB cases successfully diagnosed.
  • 52 latent TB infections detected among household contacts.
  • Expanding access to TB screenings for high-risk populations, including individuals with diabetes, silica exposure, and malnourished children.
  • Accelerating TB elimination through community-based approaches supported by advanced.

It seeks to break down economic barriers to higher education with financial aid from activities promoting personal growth to enable students to excel in career networking, allowing further academia through national university entrance success.
  • Only 55% of students from low-income families in Indonesia progress to higher education due to financial barriers (BPS, 2023).
  • Approximately 30% of underprivileged students drop out before completing secondary school due to economic constraints (Kemendikbud, 2022).
